Brays Oaks is a district in Houston, Texas, governed by the Brays Oaks Management District. The area was first developed in the 1940s, providing attractive housing for young professions in the area. In the 1979s and 1980s additional development brought apartment complexes to the areas alongside the residential subdivisions. Commercial businesses also developed along Fondren, the major roadway of Bray Oaks, as did strip malls and restaurants. However, with the Houston oil bust, the real estate market suffered, and turnovers in both residential and business areas began to take place. In the 1990s property values began to rise again. The Brays Oaks District has some 42 subdivisions and continues to improve the area by purchasing or leasing land for redevelopment.
Brays Oaks expansion continued with the creation of parks and green spaces. The district now has nine parks that offer some 300 acres for the residents and visitors to enjoy, and two additional parks were planned, adding 23 more acres of green space. These park areas include many recreational options as well. Many have community centers and offer baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, pools and play structures for younger children. You’ll also find beautiful garden beds and habitat gardens, pavilions, picnic tables and walking trails. As a part of Houston, Brays Oaks residents find that there are many additional options for recreation as well as entertainment and cultural events.
